SSBA to 50m (PART 3)

Course overview

The SSBA air diving course to 50m is a progressive step from ADAS Part 2 and includes the use of surface supported breathing apparatus. The qualification increases the diver’s ability to operate under working situations including the use of wet bells, deck decompression chambers and other work related subjects to meet onshore and offshore diving industry requirements.

The objective of Part 3 training is to prepare Part 2 divers to both safely and competently:

  • Dive on SSBA to depths of 50m

  • Use hydraulic tools at depth to 50m

  • Conduct decompression dives using in water decompression and SurDO2

  • Act as chamber operators

  • Dive using hot water suits, and operate hot water machine

  • Engage in diving operations using wet bells as an in-water standby diver and surface standby diver.

Student prerequisites

Before applicants commence ADAS SSBA to 50m (Part 3) training, the ATE must ensure that they:

  • Hold either a current ADAS Part 2 qualification or approved equivalent, have qualified at an ADAS Part 2 course in the previous one month or are currently engaged in a combined Part 2 – 3 course.

  • Hold a valid certificate of medical fitness to dive

  • Hold a recognized Advanced First Aid certificate (within 3 years) and an Advanced Resuscitation/CPR and O2 management certificate (within 12 months) from Red Crescent, Red Cross/St John Ambulance or equivalent.

  • ADADIV403A Apply knowledge of anatomy , physiology and diving physics to diving

  • ADADIV404A Assess diving casualty and assist with treatment of diving conditions

  • ADASSB411A Utilise and maintain surface-supplied diving equipment

  • ADASSB412A Undertake pre-dive preparations for a surface-supplied diving operation

  • ADASSB413A Undertake underwater deployment in a surface-supplied diving operation

  • ADASSB414A Implement emergency procedures for a surface-supplied diving operation

  • ADASSB415A Undertake post-dive procedures for a surface-supplied diving operation

  • ADADIV453A Perform underwater tasks for a diving operation

  • ADACON416A Perform underwater work with powered tools

  • ADACON417A Perform underwater work using cutting and welding

  • ADACON418A Perform underwater construction work tasks

  • ADACON419A Identify basic safety and statutory requirements for underwater explosives work

  • ADADIV461A Ensure health and safety in occupational diving in compliance with legislation

  • ADADIV462A Work effectively in the occupational diving industry

Course Details

Duration: 4 weeks

Minimum participation: 8

Maximum participation: 12
